What are your current hours and flavors?

We update this website regularly. If sudden changes such as weather events limit our hours, we update our stories on Instagram (@StudyHallVA). Please note that flavors are subject to change.

What is Study Hall and how does it work?

Study Hall is our walk-up window located on Forest Hill Ave. During Summer, we offer two dairy-based soft serve flavors, two vegan soft serve flavors, and a variety of toppings. Window hours are listed above and can change with the weather.

Once at the window, you’ll see a menu to the right. You’ll choose one of our flavors, specify if it’s vegan or dairy, if you’d like it in a cup or a cone, and if you’ll want any toppings. We’re happy to walk you through it in person as well. We work quickly and will start your order immediately.

What is in your soft serve? Do you change the flavors?

Our dairy flavors use local dairy that’s minimally processed. Most of our vegan flavors use a mixed base of oat milk, vegan sugar, and soy protein. Occasionally we’ll offer a fruit juice based vegan flavor. All of our soft serve is gluten free and nut free. From late May until late October we rotate flavors every two weeks (unless we run out). From late Fall until late Spring we limit our flavors. We are always limited to 4 flavors total, 2 dairy and 2 vegan.

Can we sit inside?

Nope. We only operate from our walk-up window. We are lucky to be located adjacent to a park with lots of picnic tables. There are also communal tables in front of Blanchard’s Cafe and Stella’s Market, our wonderful neighbors.

I have severe allergies! Should I try all of your items before asking?

At Study Hall we have a dedicated vegan soft serve machine. For toppings, flavorings, etc, we process items on shared equipment, however are as careful as possible. Please alert staff of any allergy concerns before putting anything in or near your face.

Do you release a flavor calander? How often does your menu change?

During our peak season, usually May - October, we change our flavors roughly every two weeks and offer roughly 10 toppings that rotate occasionally. Off season (November - April), if we’re able to open, we stick to Chocolate and/or Vanilla with limited toppings.

We often run specials that generally are only around for a limited time. We post those on our instagram. They are first-come, first-serve.

Do you offer samples? Can I combine dairy and vegan flavors?

Short answer? No. we don’t.

We are always happy to describe flavors and differences in ingredients. If you order something and genuinely don’t like it, please tell us and we will try to make it right.

Our dairy and vegan flavors are in completely separate machines and combining them/stacking flavors just isn’t something we do. Thank you for understanding.

I heard you occasionally run out, how is that even possible?

We make the majority of our products in house. Because our products are fresh, we occasionally run out. In general, earlier in the week and earlier in the day will have all options available.

What time do you close?

The best sources to see our current hours are this website or our google business page. We always try to post an instagram story if we have to close due to weather, selling out, or emergencies.

Please note that the closing times listed above are firm. We serve until closing time. If we have a line at the end of the night, we will occasionally turn customers away to allow staff to keep their schedules. We understand this can be frustrating, and apologize for any inconvenience.

Oh man, your staff is the greatest. Working at Study Hall must be the fucking best. How can I join your team?

Don't you also make traditional hard ice cream?

we are currently only focusing on soft serve.

Do you provide ice cream or soft serve for events?

We do on occasion. While we don’t cater or do any mobile service, we can pre-pack individual or bulk portions to be picked up for events. Please contact us for details and pricing at studyhallrva@gmail.com. Please include desired date, time, and number of people.

Do you wholesale?

Yes! Email us with what you have in mind. Please note we do not have mobile capabilities for events.

Hey! We have an organization/event and want a donation or sponsorship! How should we proceed?

As a small business, our ability to donate is limited. We can accommodate a few requests, and invite you to email those requests to studyhallrva@gmail.com. Requests for schools and/or dogs are heavily favored. Please note that we receive a huge amount of requests and are usually fully committed to gift card donations annually by mid-Spring.
